Future
Plans of Homeys

"I am an advocate for
children, and I have children of my own. When I saw something that
would benefit my children and other children in the community, I
jumped right in. Working at Homeys gave me a sense of purpose to know
I can make a difference. If I can help even one child, that would be
enough for me. Children are our future."

Homeys has set up our
operations in the Market Creek Plaza, a project
of the Jacobs Center for Nonprofit Innovation, which is
being built in Southeastern San Diego. In this new
facility, Homeys plans to effectuate our full version of
the HOP with a centralized location for our current
programs, plus new educational courses, computer
facilities cultural exhibits and shows, counseling and
referral services, and a variety of ways for community
members for all ages to learn, play, and work together.
Specific offerings in each of the listed areas will be
determined by the community members themselves and will
incorporate partnerships between Homeys and other
organizations in the neighborhood and throughout San
Diego. The HOP will be surrounded by a new community center
offering shopping, business offices, a food court,
childcare facilities, and an outdoor amphitheater.
Nearby are the Malcolm X Library, the Tubman-Chavez
Multicultural Center, and the Elementary Institute of
Science. Thus, Homeys and the HOP will be part of an impressive revitalization
effort for the community.
